Laboratories

T  Squared is also a Specialist Laboratory Contractor and comes across a variety of laboratories in its day to day business. Laboratories are widely used in education facilities such as schools and universities, research organisations, the healthcare industry including hospitals and also in industrial organisations where they can be used for research or for production purposes.

Laboratory Fit-Outs

This type of project which T  Squared has much experience with involves lots of different trades including flooring, partitioning, ceilings, and laboratory furniture as well as mechanical and electrical building services which will often include specialist gas supplies. Bringing this all together in an efficient manner is a challenging task and experience has shown that the most effective procurement option is to take on board a Specialist Laboratory Contractor who can provide a .turnkey. package assuming total responsibility for the design and delivery of the project to the client.s agreed scope of works.

Special Situations

Beyond the simple laboratory that you might find in the local school science department there are a number of special types of laboratories where serious design input is required to get things right. T  Squared has experience with such situations and can assist you if you have such requirements. These include the following: -

Containment of hazardous substances - here we are talking beyond standard fume cabinets but instead the use of safety cabinets or indeed special isolators to ensure that the operators and the pathogens are kept well apart. T  Squared has had much experience with CAT 3 laboratories and its Chartered Engineers have also been involved with rare CAT 4 situations.

Multiple Fume Cabinet installations - in this situation we are dealing with very large volumes of exhaust air which need to be replaced by equally large volumes of replacement air which will need to be heated, cooled or possibly even air conditioned. The energy involved here is massive with eye watering costs to match. Good design can mitigate this but the controls are complex as there will generally be a pressure regime that needs to be maintained at all times.

Pharmaceutical Production Laboratories - these will in effect be Laboratories and Cleanrooms combined so there will be validation issues as well as design issues. Cleanrooms generally work under a positive pressure regime while laboratories have negative pressure set ups. Careful spatial layout design is required to allow both of these to be satisfied.
