University of Glasgow, Joseph Black Cleanroom

Uog)
The School of Chemistry is based in the Joseph Black Building, on the main Gilmorehill Campus of the University of Glasgow. In 2013, after a competitive tender, the university appointed T-SQUARED to design and build an ISO Grade 5 Cleanroom to provide a suitable environment for a Chemical lithography laboratory.

Chemical lithography laboratory

The existing space which required conversion was a redundant laboratory within a Grade 'A' listed building. Adding to the challenge, the full programme of works was required within tight timescales to ensure work was completed within the summer holiday period for students returning.

The challenges posed by the space and project timings gave the T-SQUARED team an opportunity to demonstrate both their skill set and the advantages of choosing a specialist contractor to handle both the design and the build.

A core part of the project consisted of a highly regulated ISO Grade 5, temperature and humidity-controlled cleanroom. Due to the confines of the building and available space for both plant and equipment, careful planning was required to ensure to ensure all equipment could be both installed and maintained in the future.
